Australia has some of the most beautiful sights in the entire world. It's no wonder that thousands of people visit the land down under every year for vacation. The best way to see Australia is to hire a car since most visitors want to experience Australian sights in their own time and on their own terms.

National Parks


The Nitmiluk National Park close to the town of Katherine is a great park filled with amazing wildlife and the famous Katherine Gorge. It's 30 minutes north of Katherine. The park is perfect for canoeing, swimming and hiking. If you bring your own vehicle, you can take a picnic lunch along with all your equipment for a long day hike.

Kakadu National Park is 171 kilometers east of Darwin. It's a three hour car ride to see the stunning Jim Jim Falls but well worth the trip. There are more than 68 types of mammals, 290 types of birds and 10,000 species of insects in this park. A visitor could easily spend days hiking in the park and still not see everything it has to offer.

Great Barrier Reef


There are guided tours that will leave the various coastal towns to the shores where visitors can catch a a boat to one of the many islands. The guided tours do not run all day every day, and scheduling is strictly at the discretion of the guide companies. With a car, visitors have the freedom to set their own schedule.

The Blue Mountains


Visitors to Australia shouldn't pass up the opportunity to visit the natural beauty of the mountains. The tranquil, scenic vistas atop the Blue Mountains can be accessed from the city of Sydney for a change of pace in that bustling city. The area is so large that there are three national parks. The Jenolan Caves are an interesting attraction. Over 250,000 visitors each year take a guided tour of the caves. On certain nights of the week, there are ghost tours of the caves where tour guides will give a tour by torchlight. Unexplained happenings often occur.

Mount Tomah Botanical Gardens


The Blue Mountains are also home to the Mount Tomah Botanical Gardens with walking tours of various woodlands and lush rainforests that will lead to a dramatic view of the Blue Mountains in the distance. A car can being visitors to the Blue Mountains where they can stay all day exploring the many attractions of the Blue Mountains.
